Best deck stain for IPE wood?
Like other exotic hardwoods, it is best to use a semi-transparent penetrating deck stain for IPE wood. A semi-transparent deck stain developed specifically for exotic hardwoods will penetrate the wood appropriately to protect it over the course of a year. Exotic hardwoods like IPE wood do not soak up the deck stain as well as other hardwoods. The two best brands of semi-transparent deck stain for IPE wood are Restore-A-Deck and Armstrong Clark.

Does an IPE deck need some type of sealant after staining with the Armstrong-Clark stain? Thank you.
No and you can never apply a sealer over a deck stain. It would peel.
We have several items that need to be stained and protected to preserve the original look. Both projects are Brazilian Ipe wood based.
The first items are Jensen outdoor furniture, which incorporate Ipe wood into their designs. We used their recommended Penofin based restoration process and are extremely unhappy with the outcome. It faded extremely quickly and needs to be removed and refinished.
The second is a brand new Ipe deck that we do not want to make the same mistake (use of Penofin).
How do you recommend stripping the Penofin?
Is it the same as other recommendations you have suggested? To strip with Restore-A Deck Stripper and Brightener kits.
I assume I just need to clean the new deck and not brighten (the new deck color is beautiful as is).
Can I then simply use the Restore-A Deck Light Walnut on all pieces and surfaces?
Thank you
Yes, strip the Penofing and Brighten:

Great!!
A follow up question … must the stripper be removed with a pressure washer. Is a strong regular spray enough. What pressure do you use?
I want to make sure I do not damage the non-wood portion of the furniture.
Thank you.
Pressure wash off.
