Deck Prep Advice PLEASE
I have a 10 year old cedar deck that is east facing in Minnesota. So, it gets all types of weather thrown at it. To make it look nice annually I've had to stain it every year. Two years ago I used Sherwin Williams SuperDeck semi transparent stain. It obviously stayed on better but it's now patchy. I want to go back to the cedar's original look/seeing the wood grain. From what I'm hearing from your recommendation my best bet would be to go with TWP101? So, my question is about prep. I was planning on sanding all the old semitransparent off. Brush or leaf blow the dust off & stain it with TWP101. Do you feel that is sufficient or would I need to do a cleaner & brightener after sanding as well? THANK YOU!
Strip and brighten is much easier. Do this for prep.
What do you mean by strip? Sanding or using a chemical stripper product? Also, TWP101 versus Sherwin Williams product?
TWP is much better than SD. use a deck stain stripper than brightener:
Thank you for your response and I will do as you recommend. Out of curiosity though, why do you recommend a stripper versus using an upright deck sander to get the old stain off?
Stripping is much easier and better for the stain as well. Sanding can create issues.
