Blotchy stain

Hello and thanks for offering this forum!

Our deck was stained last year by a "Professional".  Among other issues are these strange blotches around every knot in the wood.  Pictures included.  We have scrubbed the deck 3 times and the splotches will not go away.

We complained to the person that did the deck and they want to come over and re-apply stain.  We are afraid that would make this issue worse.

The deck was stained in mid-October of last year (Minnesota).  The deck is 6 years old.

Any ideas on what causes the splotches and what can be done to rectify this issue?

Thanks, we are desperate!

Knots always take the stain differently. Sometimes lighter or sometimes darker. What you are seeing is normal for knots. It does seem that he "furred" the deck with the prep. You may need to strip all, sand, brighten, then restain.
