I'm considering installing Kayu Batu decking for stair treads. It is an Indonesian hardwood also called Red Balau. The product literature states that prior to installation, it should be treated with an oil sealer on all four sides. This seems to go against the advice I've read here, which is to install and wait 2-3 months prior to staining or sealing. Which is the correct approach?
The correct approach would be the advice of the stain manufacturer, not the wood manufacturer. The stain manufacturers will, in general, suggest waiting, prep, and then stain just the exposed wood.
Okay, thank you for confirming my instincts!
