CUTEKĀ® Extreme Wood Oil
CUTEKĀ® Extreme is a high-performance penetrating wood oil and stabilizer designed to protect exterior wood from the inside out while enhancing its natural beauty.
Unlike traditional deck stains or film-forming wood coatings, CUTEKĀ® Extreme penetrates deeply into the wood fibers to stabilize the wood structure and reduce damage caused by moisture movement.
Once absorbed, the oil remains permanently mobile within the wood, allowing it to migrate to newly exposed areas such as cuts, joints, or fastener holes. This unique self-healing effect helps maintain protection and improves the dimensional stability of wood over time.
Originally developed in Australia for some of the harshest climates in the world, CUTEKĀ® Extreme has more than 30 years of proven performance protecting exterior wood in demanding environments.

Why CUTEKĀ® Extreme Is Different
Most wood stains and coatings protect wood by forming a film on the surface. Over time, sun exposure and wood movement cause these coatings to crack, peel, and allow moisture to enter the wood.
CUTEKĀ® Extreme works differently.
Instead of forming a surface film, it diffuses deeply into the wood core, helping control both liquid and vapor-phase moisture movement. This reduces the risk of:
-
cupping
-
warping
-
splitting
By stabilizing wood internally rather than coating it externally, CUTEKĀ® Extreme significantly improves the service life of exterior wood.
CUTEKĀ® Wood Oil Key Features and Benefits
Stabilizes Wood
Controls moisture movement to reduce dimensional changes that cause splitting, cupping, and warping.
No Peeling or Flaking
Unlike film-forming deck stains, CUTEKĀ® Extreme gradually fades instead of cracking or peeling.
Simple Maintenance
No sanding or stripping required. Simply clean the wood and apply a maintenance coat.
Enhances Natural Wood Beauty
Highlights the natural grain, texture, and character of wood.
Long-Term Cumulative Protection
Protective oils remain active inside the wood fibers.
Cost Effective
Up to 2Ć the coverage rate of many traditional wood coatings.

CUTEKĀ® Best Application Surfaces
CUTEKĀ® Extreme performs exceptionally well on many exterior wood projects including:
-
hardwood decks (Ipe, Cumaru, Garapa, Tigerwood)
-
cedar and redwood decks
-
exterior siding and cladding
-
pergolas and timber structures
-
fences
-
outdoor furniture
-
architectural wood features
It is widely used as a penetrating oil for hardwood decks and exterior wood siding.
CUTEKĀ® Colortones
CUTEKĀ® Extreme is supplied as a clear penetrating oil.
When applied without a Colortone, the wood will naturally lighten and weather to a silver-gray patina when exposed to sunlight and UV.
Even when wood naturally grays, CUTEKĀ® Extreme continues to protect the wood internally from moisture intrusion.
To maintain the freshly oiled appearance or enhance the natural color of wood, CUTEKĀ® Extreme can be mixed with one of 18 CUTEKĀ® Colortones.
Colortone Benefits
-
Enhance, donāt mask the beauty of your wood ā highlights the natural grain and feel of the wood
-
UV protection ā slows the natural lightening and silvering process
-
Extensive color range ā choose from 18 Colortones
-
Maintains the freshly oiled look of wood
-
Designed to complement popular wood species
For best results, select a Colortone that closely matches the natural shade of the wood being coated.
Important
Use only CUTEKĀ® Colortones with CUTEKĀ® Extreme.
These proprietary additives are specifically designed to work with the oil system and are not compatible with third-party colorants.

CUTEKĀ® Colortones Disclaimer
Colortone images shown online are representative only. Final color may vary depending on:
-
wood species
-
natural wood color
-
wood age and condition
-
application method
Best to test a CUTEKĀ® pre-mixed sample on your actual wood before completing your project.
CUTEKĀ® Application Overview
Before starting, review all safety precautions on the product label and Safety Data Sheet and ensure appropriate protective equipment is used.
Weather Conditions
After application, CUTEKĀ® Extreme typically requires 3ā5 days of dry weather to allow full penetration and diffusion into the wood.
Always check the weather forecast before coating.
CUTEKĀ® Surface Preparation
For best results, wood must be:
-
clean
-
dry
-
free of grease and contaminants
-
free of chemical residues
- free of any previous coatings or stains
Wood moisture content should be below 17%.
Avoid coating in dusty conditions or where contaminants may settle on the surface during drying.
Mixing Instructions
-
Stir the CUTEKĀ® Colortone thoroughly before adding it to clear CUTEKĀ® Extreme.
-
Stir the mixture for about 2 minutes, lifting from the bottom of the can.
-
Continue stirring periodically during application to maintain even color.
Application
Apply using a brush, floor brush, or paint pad applicator. Apply thin, even coats. Two or three thin coats provide better penetration and drying than one or two thick coats.
Pre-Installation Application
-
Apply one coat of clear CUTEKĀ® Extreme to all sides of the wood before installation.
-
After installation, apply a second coat to the exposed surface once the first coat has diffused.
Post-Construction Application
If coating installed wood apply two thin coats to accessible surfaces and allow the first coat to fully penetrate and dry before applying the second. Dense hardwoods absorb oil more slowly, so thin coats are essential.
CUTEKĀ® Ideal Application Conditions
-
Temperature: 50°F ā 95°F
-
Wood moisture: below 17%
-
No rain expected for 3ā5 days
-
Avoid applying to extremely hot wood surfaces
CUTEKĀ® Extreme Drying and Diffusion
Unlike traditional wood coatings, CUTEKĀ® Extreme must penetrate and diffuse into the wood structure.
Drying Time
Unlike traditional wood coatings, CUTEKĀ® Extreme needs to penetrate/diffuse deeply into your wood. After coating, CUTEKĀ® Extreme will slowly migrate into your wood to repel moisture, improve dimensional stability, and lengthen the service life of your wood. This penetration/diffusion process varies in time for many reasons, including differences in wood type (species, density, porosity, age of wood, and residual moisture content) as well as environmental factors (temperature, humidity, weather). Sometimes this drying process can take several days to complete. You will know when your wood is ready for an additional coat of CUTEKĀ® Extreme when it is completely dry and non-greasy. To test: press a tissue or rag on the wood, and if there is no transfer, it is dry. Please note the second coat of CUTEKĀ® Extreme will take longer to migrate into your wood than the first coat.
Drying time depends on wood species, wood density, wood porosity, temperature, and humidity. The wood is ready for another coat when the surface is dry and no longer greasy. The second coat often takes longer to diffuse than the first coat.
CUTEKĀ® Extreme Maintenance
CUTEKĀ® Extreme is designed to fade gradually rather than peel or crack.
Maintenance is simple:
-
clean the wood surface
-
apply a maintenance coat
Typical Maintenance Timeline
| Surface Type | Recoat Interval |
|---|---|
| Horizontal decks | 12-36 months |
| Handrails | 12ā18 months |
| Vertical siding | 2ā4 years |
| Protected wood | as needed |
Note: Maintenance frequency varies depending on wood species, weather exposure, surface texture, and environmental conditions.

Cleanup
Tools and equipment may be cleaned using:
-
CUTEKĀ® Quickclean
-
mineral spirits
