I used Restore-a-Deck stripper and Brightener twice on my deck. There was a lot of grey remaining, which lightened as it dried. So I applied the RAD semi transparent stain. Then it rained! Two questions. 1. Why so much grey, and 2. How do I repair the damage done from the rain?
The rain harmed the stain before it had a chance to dry, so you would have to remove the stain and start over to fix it. As for the gray, we would need to see pics of the wood before it was stained to see the prep.
The first picture is after staining showing the rain damage. The third and fourth pictures are before staining and after prepping twice (strip & brighten).
You did not pressure wash the property while doing the stripping and brightening steps.
I recently replaced my standard 10×12 deck with pressure treated southern pine. We live about 30 miles west of Atlanta.I wanted to use Restore-A-Deck in the light walnut stain. I was giving it 2 months to weather before starting to process of cleaning and staining. Would 2 gallons of stain be enough to complete my project.
Restore A Deck Stains want 3 or more months and then clean and brighten for prep. Only one coat, so if you have only 120 sq feet, then 1 gallon should work. If you have stairs and railings, then you need to add that into the total square footage.
Thanks I do have spindles and top railings also new support beams
Flooring Length x width =?
Railing Length x height =?
Steps Width x Depth x #of Steps =?
Add up all 3 for the Total Sq. footage.
Thank you for all your quick responses and advice in bringing my mahogany deck back to life. I have followed your 3 step process, deck stripper, deck brightened and then stain. I chose the Armstrong Clark wood stain natural tone. The deck was installed 2 years age, has been sanded twice as previous stain and sealers did not hold up to New England weather. My question is this, do I do a 2nd coat of the Armstrong Clark stain? Please advise
Not for hardwood decking. FYI, you should be using a Armstrong Clark hardwood color for your deck, not the natural color: https://www.deckstainhelp.com/product-category/armstrong-clark-ipe-and-hardwood-stains/
I didn’t find your site til After using the Behr Waterbased Semi-Transparent stain on my 1 yr old brand new wood deck. So far it is even enough. I wish I could see more of the wood grain.
For the future I’d prefer to use a penetrating stain …if I wait for few weeks can I just do a “second coat” of something like the Restore? Or would oil-based penetrating product be best?
Hoping in future to just add coats that penetrate into wood without the need for sanding or stripping.
You cannot apply any coating over the Behr. You will have no choice but to remove it fully when it fails or when you switch.
How long does product take for shipping?
That varies based on where you live. 1-4 business days is the norm.
Does restore a deck stain come in oil based clear?
Restore A Deck stain is water based.
Following your 3 step program, I’d like the deck stain stripper, the deck neutralizer and TWP oil based clear stain for 350 sq ft. Can you tell me the amounts I need?
One stripper and brightener kit:
https://www.deckstainhelp.com/product/restore-a-deck-stripper-brightener-kit/
3-4 gallons of the TWP stain.
Is the TWP product and oil based stain?
Yes, it is.

How do I know if I need to apply 2 coats?
Now, wood, just one coat. Older wood, is typically two coats.
How often should I have to re-stain flat surfaces like stairs, railings & deck floors? We live in N Michigan & plan to use dark walnut color as that most closely matches current stain?
Every 2-3 years is normal.
On line ordering does,nt seem to work from Canada?
It is working now. Sorry about that.
Yes
Used this stain for my 5 year old deck that was never treated. It turned out AMAZING. Coverage is great and really easy to use since it can be applied to damp wood
