Hello, I have a newer deck and after speaking with you last fall we agreed it was best to wait until spring to clean and brighten the new pine boards. I bought the complete restore a deck cleaner and brightner kit. Today I started the cleaning process on my 300 SQ ft deck. I followed the instructions. I have then been rinsing the cleaner for about an hour as I’m seeing and feeling a slimy substance left on the boards pictures attached. Could you please advise? Thanks Mike in Ohio.
Yes, that is the oxidation residue that was removed during cleaning. It is normal. Rinse that off before it dries.
Hi Scott
I tried rinsing this off before drying but it would not budge. Very jell like. Hose water had no effect. I’m attaching new photos of this morning. I’m at a loss on what to do. I don’t have any of the cleaner left, just brightner.
Mike
That is not oxidation removal (as in the other picture) in this picture, but furring. This can happen during prep for a variety of reasons. See tips:

Hi Scott
I guess I’m not done asking for your expertise. I do apologize and appreciate what you do. Anyway, I started late afternoon cleaning my deck and couldn’t go right to brightner. I ended up with fuzzies.
With your advice and then spent the next 2 afternoons sanding them off. (At least what I understood them to be).
The next day (today) I have spent the afternoon applying the brightner in sections. I have put hundreds of gallons of hose water in rinsing to the best of my knowledge.
I’m attaching pictures. When wet the deck looks great. When dry it turns white. I’m exhausted. Can I stain or not?
Thank you again
Mike
Yes, stain. It will look great!
I used green 3m pads. Also we are now expecting 4 days of rain. Will I still be good after this system has moved through? Thanks again for everything!
Yes, just remove any debris prior to staining. AC stains need 48 hours after prep or rain to dry. Post some pics when done.

How fine of a grit did you sand?

Here’s another picture from yesterday showing the oxidation laying on the boards as a jell like substance that would not rinse off.
