CUTEK® Wood Stripper is a powerful, easy-to-use paint and coating remover designed for both professionals and DIY users.
It effectively removes multiple layers of common wood finishes, including latex paints, stains, varnishes, linseed oils, acrylics, and other film-forming coatings. It can also be used on metal, brick, and masonry surfaces.
Formulated to be both effective and safer to use, CUTEK® Wood Stripper is a smart alternative to traditional stripping products that rely on harsh chemicals such as methylene chloride or NMP.
STEP 1: PREPARE
Before Applying
Due to the wide variation in coatings, always test CUTEK® Wood Stripper before starting your project. This will help determine:
- Required dwell time
- Amount of product needed
- Effectiveness on your specific coating
Note: Multiple applications may be required for thick, multi-layer coatings or heavy film-forming finishes.
Safety & Precautions
- Review all hazards and safety guidelines in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
- Wear appropriate protective equipment
- Protect all surrounding surfaces and vegetation
- Be aware of wind drift during rinsing, especially near vehicles or pedestrian areas
- Pre-wet and rinse adjacent areas (plants, concrete, asphalt, etc.) before and after use
Coverage
- Approximately 120 sq. ft. per gallon
- Coverage will vary depending on:
- Type of coating
- Thickness and number of layers
Application Steps
- Apply evenly to dry wood using:
- Brush
- Roller
- Paint pad applicator
- Work the product into the wood grain
- Allow 30–60 minutes of dwell time
- Keep the surface wet and active by:
- Reapplying product as needed
- Lightly agitating with your applicator
Important:
- The surface may become slippery—do not walk on treated areas
- Test periodically with a scraper to check if the coating is lifting
- Start with a small test area (approx. 10 sq. ft.) to refine your technique
Removal
- Once the coating has loosened, rinse thoroughly with a pressure washer (approx. 750 PSI / 50 bar) using a fan tip
- Do NOT use a garden hose—it is not sufficient
Cautions:
- Avoid damaging wood fibers:
- Do not use turbo/rotary nozzles
- Adjust pressure and distance as needed
Best practice:
- Start from the lowest point and work upward
- Use long, even strokes with the grain
- Cleaning from the top down can cause the product below to become sticky and harder to remove
After Stripping
- Clean the wood with CUTEK® Wood Reviver to:
- Neutralize and remove residue
- Brighten and restore the wood
- Some woods may develop a raised grain:
- Light sanding or pad scrubbing may be required
Clean-Up & Disposal
- Clean equipment with:
- CUTEK® Quickclean, or
- Soap/detergent and water
- Dispose of all wash water and materials in accordance with local regulations
