How to Protect Your Deck From Rain Before and After Staining
Wood decks are a fantastic way to enhance the beauty and value of your home while providing a comfortable outdoor space for entertaining guests and relaxing. However, they are constantly exposed to harsh elements like rain, snow, sun, mold, mildew, and pests. Proper deck maintenance is crucial to preserving its longevity and appearance. One of the biggest challenges homeowners face is dealing with unexpected rain before or after staining their deck. In this article, I’ll cover how to avoid rain on your newly applied deck stain and what to do if rain catches you off guard.

Key Tips for Preventing Rain Damage to Deck Stain
- Rain can cause issues with fresh stain, leading to washout, blotches, or an uneven finish.
 - Once the deck is dry, inspect for damage to see if touch-ups or a full redo are needed.
 - A light second coat may help even things out, but severe cases might require stripping and restaining.
 - Sanding and cleaning can improve blotchy spots before reapplying stain.
 - Always check the forecast before staining to avoid unexpected rain ruining your hard work.

Rain After Staining a Deck: What to Do Immediately
You checked the weather forecast, and everything looked clear, so you started staining your deck. Then, out of nowhere, a rainstorm hits. Panic sets in—but don’t worry, it’s not the end of the world.
Has this happened to you? If rain interfered with your deck staining project, leave a comment below, and I’ll help troubleshoot a solution. If possible, share pictures so I can offer specific advice.
Why Rain Too Soon After Deck Staining Damages the Finish
Staining a wood deck is essential for protecting it against the elements and extending its lifespan. However, once the stain is applied, it needs adequate time to dry and cure. If rain falls too soon after staining, several problems can arise:
- Washout Effect – Rain can cause the stain to rinse off before it fully absorbs into the wood, leading to uneven coverage.
 - Blotches and Spots – Water can create unsightly spots where the stain has been partially removed.
 - Poor Adhesion – Some stains require a curing period to bond with the wood properly. Moisture can prevent this, leading to premature failure.

To avoid these issues, let’s discuss how long stains typically need to dry and what signs of rain damage to look out for.
How Long Should Deck Stain Dry Before Rain?
The drying time for deck stains depends on various factors, including the type of stain used, weather conditions, and wood porosity. Here’s a general guideline:
- Water-Based Stains – Typically dry to the touch in 1-2 hours but require at least 24-48 hours to cure fully.
 - Oil-Based Stains – Take longer to dry, usually around 4-12 hours before they can resist light moisture. A full cure can take up to 72 hours.
 - Humidity and Temperature – High humidity or cool temperatures can slow drying times significantly.

Always check the product manufacturer’s recommendations for precise drying times.
Next, I’ll review the time needed for wood deck stains to properly dry, discuss the signs of rain damage, and explain the best remedial measures to take.
My Steps to Prevent and Fix Rain Damage on Fresh Deck Stain
1. Check the Rain Forecast
I know this is obvious, but always check the forest before starting. It is best never to stain any exterior wood when inclement weather is forecasted, especially rain. Most deck stain brands warn against applying their product within 12-24 hours of rain. In any case, I always place a waterproof cover or tarp over the deck as a preventative measure. But as we all know, sometimes the weather is not so predictable and people forget things. So, what do you do if it does rain on your deck shortly after staining?
2. Too Late, It Rained on Newly Applied Deck Stain
You cannot do much until it stops raining once it starts. Just let the rain continue and asses after it has stopped. Do not bother trying to tarp, as it will be too late. A light drizzle most likely won’t hurt anything, but a good downpour can be a different story. The type and brand of stain can make a difference as well. Some stains can handle rain better shortly after being applied than others.
3. Steps to Take after it Rained on Deck Stain
Step 1: Assessing the Rain Damage
After the rain has passed and the deck has dried, take a closer look. It depends on how hard it rained and for how long. Look for little pockets, blotches, or white spots, usually the size of a dime. Any of these can indicate some damage from the rain.
Step 2: Check Deck Stain Directions
Read the instructions on the stain can for recoating or adding a second coat. Once you are within the time frame recommended for a second coat, try applying the stain in an inconspicuous spot to see if it fixes the rain damage.
Note: Water-based stains generally cure in roughly 2 hours, while oil-based products usually require at least 1-3 days. Keep in mind that the curing process is often slower when the temperature is below 60 degrees (F).
Step 3: Redo Deck Stain Prep and Start Over
Applying a second coat of stain will often resolve problems associated with minor rain damage. If a light recoat does not fix the problem, you can also try using a mix of wood cleaner and a pressure washer to see if you can wash the spots without harming the stain. Or you can try lightly sanding the rain spots and recoating. Care must be taken, though, not to over-apply the stain, as this can cause other issues like flaking and peeling. If you cannot fix the problem with washing, sanding, and recoating, you may have to remove the stain with a deck stain stripper and start over again.
Extra Tips to Avoid Rain Damage Before and After Deck Staining
Choosing the Right Product
While many water-based stains will dry completely in 12 to 14 hours, oil-based products often require a day or more of drying time. I have found that stain products that deeply penetrate or absorb into the wood usually perform the best in terms of appearance and long-term surface protection. As such, it’s very important to allow this process to occur without being hindered by water.
Before choosing a wood stain product for your deck, I encourage you to visit our product reviews on DeskStainHelp.com. I also invite you to visit our interactive forum with questions, comments, or feedback.
Use a Tarp or Cover
As I noted, weather forecasts are sometimes inaccurate, so covering the deck with a durable tarp or similar material after applying stain is an important precautionary measure. Various tarp products, such as those composed of polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), vinyl, and similar materials, are affordable and effective.
4. Popular Rain on Deck Stain Questions:
How long does the deck stain need to dry before it can get wet?
Answer: The time required for deck stain to dry and cure varies according to the stain, temperature, humidity, and other factors. Always consult with the manufacturer’s instructions to confirm the timing. As noted, be sure to check the weather forecast before getting started. The majority of stain products will dry completely within 24 to 48 hours.
What should I do if my deck looks blotchy after the rain?
Answer: If rain has caused your recently stained deck to appear blotchy, it is important to let the surface dry completely. In many cases, lightly recoating the blotchy areas will correct the problem.
If the problem persists, apply a wood cleaning product and rinse the surface with a pressure washer. If blotches are still visible, gently remove them with sandpaper before recoating the area with stain.
Can I apply a new layer of stain over the existing one?
Answer: Yes. You should gently sand the surface and then apply a fresh layer of stain. Remember to always review the manufacturer’s instructions before reapplying the stain.
Will rain ruin a freshly stained deck?
Answer: Rain may damage your deck if the stain has not dried completely, particularly if a heavy downpour occurs. Because the stain has yet to be fully absorbed into the wood, the water may wash away or significantly dilute the stain.
In these instances, the most common problems are peeling, discoloration, and spots.
How can I protect my deck from unexpected rain?
Answer: Always check the weather forecast for any possibility of rain before applying stain to your wooden deck. Consult the manufacturer’s instructions on the packaging or labeling materials regarding the time needed for drying and curing. Furthermore, cover the deck completely with a waterproof cover or tarp as a precaution.
How do I know if my deck stain is ruined?
Answer: When a freshly stained deck is exposed to rain, it may ruin the stain. As noted, large areas of discoloration, blotches, or spots are common indicators of a need to recoat the surface. Based on the circumstances, you may need to clean and lightly sand the surface before reapplying the stain. However, using a deck stain stripping product might be necessary if the water damage is more extensive.
Will rain ruin a newly stained deck?
Answer: Yes, if the stain has not fully dried or cured, it may permanently damage the deck stain.
How long does deck stain need to dry before rain?
Answer: This varies based on stain brand, type of stain, and weather conditions. The average is 4-12 hours but can be put to 24-48 hours.
What if it rains 12 hours after staining deck?
Answer: 90% of the time, there would be no issues.
What if it rains 24 hours after staining deck?
Answer: I rarely see any issues, but it is always possible that the weather was cold or that the stain was over-applied.

I used a Benjamin Moore Arborcoat, Translucent Classic Oil Finish on my year old deck. It was a nice warm day but that night it rained. Now it has horrible white patches of water damage in areas in shade. I have squeegeed it dry and am hoping the next few days of warm dry weather will help it cure and fade the white spots… any suggestions as to what to do if they do not go away on their own? See picture attached. Thank you!
Ugh, that does not look good. Not sure if it can be fixed. I would contact BM and see what they say.
Similar question. I applied first coat of Behr semi-transparent waterproofing stain & sealer (water based) on a completely sanded screened porch deck. It dried for approximately 12-14 hours before it started to rain. Most of the deck is dry because it is covered but some rain came in through the screen. It looks fine so far but the stain requires 2 coats. There is a chance a rain for next two days. Can I put the second coat of stain on after waiting this long? Will the 2nd coat of stain still soak in?
Thanks
It will probably not adhere well but best to ask Behr as we do not use their products due to all the peeling issues.
Do you think it would be best to just stick with 1 coat even though the instructions say 2 coats? It seemed to cover pretty good and looks good. I wonder if I could just add a second coat in a few years (with some light sanding).
Thanks for your help, wish I would have done a little more research on stain before using the Behr product.
I would leave at one coat. Easier to remove if it fails.
How long after staining a deck can you put furniture on it?
Depends on the brand of stain you used?
I applied the 1st coat of behrs semi transparent waterproofing stain & sealer. I realized that to apply the second coat I needed to purchase another gallon to mix with the remaining 1/2 gallon. The can instructions indicate 1-2 hours dry time before redcoat. It is now about 16 hours later that i am able to purchase another gallon. Can i still apply the second coat?
You should be okay.
We used Rust-Oleum RockSolid Tintable Resurfacer on our deck yesterday, finishing the first coat at 4pm. There was unpredicted rain at around 10:30pm. The deck was almost dry by this morning, and there were a couple light spots and a few white powdery lines. Now there is another unpredicted rain shower occurring, and there is a lot of soapy looking bubbling that we see on the deck. Do you think this will be a big issue? We were supposed to be rain-free all week…
Probably. Best to wait and see if it looks okay after the rain stops.
Hi, I stained my deck with Bears waterproofing wood finish and an hr later it rained. It had discolored in some areas so i let it dry for 1 week, but it was still sticky. I put on another coat 2 weeks after, and now one week after that i went to move the plans using a dolly and when i turned the dolly wheel it smeared the stain and it is still sticky. What advise do you have for me please? i live in Fl where it is hard to predict the rain and rains almost daily here….Thank you.
You will have to remove all and start over and that will require scraping and sanding. A stripper will not remove it.
We just built a new deck frame. The boards were stacked and dried. Tonight we finally laid the boards out on the frame and stained them with Sadolin Classic deck stain (a UK product). It is solvent based. I should know better than to trust British weather forecasts. I finished staining at 10PM and realised at 12 midnight that it was pouring. This was not predicted. We bought them into the conservatory, one at a time. They weren’t fixed down. Although slightly sticky, I was able to wipe them with a damp paper towel. The boards are pressure treated, and I’m afraid sanding them might have an effect on that. What should I do. What should I expect. I’m heartsick. We worked so hard up to this point.
You cannot stain new wood right away without proper weathering and prep: https://www.deckstainhelp.com/staining-a-new-deck/
You will probably need to remove the coating, install the wood, let weather, and prep.
Stained deck with latex. 2nd coat. Rained 1hr later light. After it dried left powdery substance is it still good
Hard to say but probably will have issues. Plese post a picture and what brand of stain have you used?
Rained 1hr after application now dry left powdery substance is it ok?p
i stained my deck and than we had a downpour for 45 minutes about 2 hours after I finished when it dryer it is a little sticky. Will this go away after a few warm days
Hard to say. Depends on the brand and if it had enough time to start curing.
URGENT: Hi, we stained (first coat only due to time) last weekend and everything went well, rained yesterday (6 days later) a little and it’s beading Off and looks as you’d want it to look. My question is can we put the second coat on today 7 days later with no issue? If so any advice? We have Cabot Gold Satin sunlit walnut stain. The package says 24 hours to 7 days, we didn’t have time during the week to get it done. Thanks!!
Sorry but no idea with this new product. Most likely will peel anyhow since it is a film-forming product.
Weird coincidence with this forum topic but we put it on and it looked good, and then about 30 minutes after we finished it rained for 5-7 minutes unforecasted (no rain in forecast until Thursday). Now there are water marks. How would I go about fixing it, not going to redo spindles just the ground surface. Strip it all the way down? Also have a couple dog prints because he snuck out there. Thanks for the advice!
The Cabot Gold is a new product that from we have seen will create major issues and failures after the first year. It “films” on top of the wood, creating a shine. These product types are known to create serious issues of peeling, flaking, and difficulty of removal to fix.
Not sure how it can be fixed besides power sanding it all off as stain stripper will probably not work. Hopefully, the watermarks will go away but best to assess after it dries and cures for a few days.
Feel free to post some pictures when you have time.
Made a base out of wood for an outdoor shower. We stained it and put a polyurethane clear coat over the dark stain
Now after using shower the stain is leaving dark stain marks around the cool deck
What can I do so that it does not continue to leave the he dark stain marks each time we use the outdoor shower
Thank you
Sand it all off and leave it unstained and not coated. Polyurethanes will not work for exterior wood.
Hello. I love your website. I sanded, cleaned, stripped and brightened in that order. Waited 4 days of dry weather to stain with TWP 100 Cedartone. It was cool and overcast. Finished by 11:30 am yesterday. This morning about 7:30 am it rained. Not a downpour but it left puddle looking water in top of stain. Like beading kind of. I noticed what hasn’t dried yet has a milky look to it. Should I just leave alone? I put on one coat nice and even with a brush and then wiped down with an old T-shirt when finished and it looked amazing. Now worried about the puddling look and the milky spots. Help! I am so upset after following all directions and working so hard to prep and then not forecasted rain!!! WhT should I do? Tomorrow the weather will be high 80’s today is cloudy. Advice please. Ps will it be tacky? Should I apply another coat?
Yes, just leave it alone until the rain stops and it fully cures and dries. Assess after a week to see if it needs anything.
Today it looks better. Sunny and hot today. There just looks like some crystallized small streaks where there is a slight crack in the wood. Think it’s stain. Should I wait a week and run those down with a wet rag? It is supposed to rain tomorrow again. Is the puddles in top of stain mean it’s protecting the wood already? Is that normal. The problem area is the shaded part of the deck where it gets no sun. Last question. How long should I wait to put furniture etc on it for best outcome? Thank you so much for all your help. I feel I have learned a lot from your site!!!
-You can wipe anything now.
-Yes, it beads water.
-Wait a few days for furniture.
If I reapply stain and waterproof late in the day (to avoid direct sun) will the stain get cloudy overnight?
No, it should not but it could happen based on the stain brand you are using.
I put cetol on the deck and it got down to 8 degrees and in the morning the deck turned white. What can I do? Is it okay to put the next coat over the white.
No I do not think you can fix this by adding more. You will most likely need to strip if off and start over but best to ask Sikkens for advice.
Another photo of my wrecked deck stain. 🙁
A painter put on a coat of Sherwin Williams Deck and Dock solid stain, on top of a first coat that wasn’t the right color, and then the heavens opened and it poured. Lots of white. Looks awful. When you say “remove it” – what does that mean? Sand it off? That’s going to be a big job. Is it likely to fail if it is painted over?
This is a solid stain so the same does not apply as if it was a semi-transparent stain. Try applying another coat to even it out.
Great forum. Thanks. Used slight tint thompsons water seal. Started early morning, finished half by noon, other half in evening, unforcasted moderate rain around midnight. Next day, no blotches, looks good, but water seems to bead (nicely/correctly) on part finished before noon, and no beading/seal on part finished a few hours before rain. Any input appreciated. Thx
Leave alone. Beading water is not important anyhow. You want it to shed water as the atain should not be 100% sealing the wood and be breathable.
Thanks for input. Next time will look at reviews your reviews first…seems like there would have been some better choices.
Saturday morning I finished staining my deck at around 10 am and it started raining hard at…11:30PM so I have arount 13-14 hr of drying time. I have put some plastic tarp over my deck before the rain do you think I will be Ok, I used SIkkens cetol srd re
Hard to say but probably okay. Check for water or small white spots.
I sanded down deck, then stained, next day rain. The customer complained about how it looks. This was two weeks ago. Can I throw a second coat on? I used sikkens srd re 1 coat oil transparent. Can I just wash it with something then apply another coat. I’m at a loss as to what to say or do as she’s not paying me until it’s solved. Any advice without having to resand would be great as it’s a week worth of sanding and I’m not willing to do it for free as the customer will probably expect.
There is nothing wrong with it in the pictures and the rain did not have any effect on it. I would suggest getting Sikkens to back you up on this.
I just stained part of my deck this morning at 6am with a Acrylic/oil semi-Transparent. It suppose to rain tomorrow and I was wanting to put on a second coat. Few questions, 1 how long should I wait to let the stain dry, and should I add a second coat? I thought I read where you should not add second coat to oil based stain.
2. If I don’t get to the second coat, is it ok to add a second coat a week down the road? Is there a time period where you should add the second coat before that ship has sailed?
3. I’m worried about staining during the day time. So if it suppose to rain tomorrow would it be a bad idea to stain tonight? So many questions, but I appreciate all the help.
This all depends on the brand? Best to follow their directions on adding more coats or not.
We stripped, cleaned, and neutralized our deck and were waiting 48h to stain it; however, about 36h later we had a very light drizzle (this morning), when is it safe to stain our deck at this point? Another 48h or less? We’re planning on using clear oil-based (penetrating) stain. There should be no rain for the next 4-5 days.
24-48 hours if just a light drizzle.
I stained my deck on Monday morning on a sanded deck. I used Behr Cedar Naturaltone. It Rained hard early Tuesday morning. Today once the rain dried up I did not like how the deck looked, it hardly looked like it had any stain on it. I decided today to pit on a second coat. My question is, is it okay that I did a second coat almost two days later. The first cost I did was still a little stcky and still was not too dry in places.
You may have issues with properly curing and drying. The only way to tell is after a few days to see if sticky. In addition, it may be over applied and start to peel inside a year or so.
Same issue as others, lol. We used oil based stain last night (9pm) and had planned to apply a second coat (first coat on upper section) tonight. However, it is calling for 0.5-1inch of rain (slow drizzle over like 12 hours) starting about 3am tomorrow. I assume the best course of action would be to leave the second coat (and first coat of upper section) until the rain has passed and dried? I assume adding the second coat so close to rain would be a bad idea? Also, how long after it rains can I consider applying the second coat? I assume it all depends on humidity/sun/etc. but what would be a good rule of thumb, or something to watch for? Thanks.
Wait until no chance of rain. 24-48 hours after a rain to apply. Just make sure the wood is dry.
Thanks!
We stained our deck yesterday with Behr oil Cedar Naturaltone 4001. We finished the deck around noon and it started raining early this morning. The deck had about 15 hours drying time before rain came. Would some of that stain wash off.? The deck looked darker yesterday before the rain and do you think the deck was dry enough before the rain came?
Hard to say but most likely the rain will not harm the finish.
I stained my deck yesterday morning. I finished the job at around 2 pm. When I went to bed the stain had dried. Today, at around 11 am it started raining (light rain). This was not in the forecast yesterday.
My estimate is that 3/4 of the deck has had at least 24 hours of dry weather and maybe a quarter of the deck had 21 to 22 hours of dried temperature. What should I expect when it stops raining?
I used Thompson Water Seal.
You should be fine with the rain.
Thanks for the quick response!
Stained my deck last year. I decided to stain again this year also but rains coming in 8 hours. What should i do?
Wait until the weather is better.
I completed staining my deck with Behr Transparent water seal stain and within an hour an unpredicted downpour hit us for around an hour. The next day the deck still looked great and I could find no white spots or damage. However, the deck has been tacky/sticky in the following days and it has rained a number of times since. Will the tackiness go away once the deck has a chance to dry, or must I start over?
Thank you
Let it cure in the sun for a few days or a week and hopefully it goes away. If it does not, you may need to start over.
Hi, I just finished staining only the railings of my deck with TWP 100 series. The forecast has changed on me and now passing showers are predicated overnight. Can I put plastic over the railings to protect them or will that cause other issues with the curing process?
Leave alone and do not cover.
How do I get an oil based stain our of concrete?
A graffiti remover and pressure washing.
Stained some spindles today with Olympic Elite semi solid. Spindles only. It is not raining yet, but the forecast changed and it will hit in about an hour. How long will it take for them to dry enough so no harm done? Thanks
4-12 hours.
We stained our deck 6 days ago with an oil based deck stain, it was completely dry within 48 hours. It rained the last two days and now many areas look milky or are peeling away. What should we do? Thanks so much!
Looks like the stain had not fully cured before the rain hit. Let the rain water dry and see if the white disappears. May take a few days or longer. If it does not, you will need to strip all and start over.
Hi i oiled my deck yesterday afternoon and it rained about 16 hours afterwards, the deck is still a little bit sticky and has some water on it in sections, should i try and wipe away the water or let it dry naturally?
Let is dry naturally. Wait a few days and check to make sure it has cured correctly.
I have a client that insists the oil based deck stain used on her deck is bleeding through onto the concrete patio below the deck. The stain was dry a couple of weeks before it rained so the stain was fully cured before it rained.
I know its not the stain’s fault. I am just trying to figure out what happened and why there are stains on the concrete below in the pattern of the decks boards.
Any ideas??
What brand of stain did you use? Some are non-drying and can create this issue.
Sherwin Williams deckscapes
Might want to ask them as that would not be normal for SW.
I know. Every other deck in this housing development had their decks stained with the same product. A couple of patios underneath showed some striping like a dirt line. Does not scrub off easily.
Post a picture.
I recently stained my deck with aborcoat translucent teak. It rained 15 hours after application. Should I be concerned?
It is most likely okay.
I painted my deck yesterday, there are a few spots that haven’t dried and it has started sprinkling this morning. Is there anything I can do to dry it?
Not much you can do. Might need to redo if it is affected badly.
Stain was fully dry when gloss yatch varnish was applied to it. Then the damp night air set in plus rain and now theres loads white marks all over it. Is there any way if restoring it agaib please?
Might need to sand it all off and start over.
I’m having an issue with enduradeck solid stain. It was applied in 2 coats, first coat Monday and second coat Tuesday. Out of no where it rained lightly on Wednesday night just after midnight. I came back to tree droppings all over the deck and stains left behind from them. It’s been two weeks now and it is only getting worse. Has anyone else experienced this and have a solution?
Does not look good! I would contact them for help.
Stained deck yesterday, in afternoon, it did not dry before dark. Now early morning there are some white moldy looking blotches
Post a picture.
So I’m using Defy Extreme Wood Stain (water base) and there was no rain forecast and of course it started to rain… Very very lightly keep in mind so I stopped covered up the railing since more rain is now coming. There are very light droplet marks I think I may be able to hit with a light coat to cover. So my questions are
Will a light coat help since I was able to cover quickly?
Also, will I have to re wash and re brighten my deck since there is rain in the forecast for the next three days before I can continue finishing my deck?
You would be okay with touching up the rails. No need to prep again.
Awesome very happy with the coverage of Defy but it’s very difficult to keep up with the wood for the wet on wet application… Almost recommend two people
I am redoing my deck and that includes replacement of some redwood and sanding the majority of the deck. what happens to the redwood if it rains on it and I have not gotten a chance to stain it? will it have to be resanded?
No. Rain does not harm any prep.
My husband and I are painting our deck with Behr Deckover paint. We did the first coat yesterday (which took most of the day as our deck is 22×35 plus one flight of stairs. Our plan was to do the second coat six hours later, but that would have been in the dark. Yesterday and today were supposed to be rainfree, but I just checked the forecast and it states we have 15% chance of rain today, 30% chance of rain tomorrow and a 30-50% chance of rain every day after that for the rest of the month.
What should we do in regards to the second coat. Should we paint today or wait until September? (We live in an area that is well-known for daily rain most of the year until it starts snowing).
I would ask Behr for help on this.
I was about half done staining a cedar fence and shed with Behr Premium Transparent Log Home Gloss Finish. Zero rain in the forecast when out of no where, 5 minute down pour! It has all turned white?
It is most likley ruined. May need to remove and start over if the white does not go away after it dries.
That was very helpful to me as we have the same problem white parts all over but seem to be lessening as dry weather stays. Just leaving to see if all white parts go away with further dryness. Here’s hoping. Thanks
I recently stained my deck with Behr Solid Color Waterproofing Wood Stain. The second coat was applied and finished just before 11 am yesterday. While that dried we stained all the railings finishing those by about 6pm. Now comes the question… it started to rain this morning at 7ish and now looks like rain all day is forecast. If my math is correct the deck itself had about 19 – 20 hrs of drying time, need I worry?
it should be fine.
What is the best deck sealer
Try one of these stains: https://www.deckstainhelp.com/the-5-best-deck-stain-reviews-and-ratings/
I stained 10 month old deck with thompsons semi transparent water based stain. Pop up shower came and did brief sprinkle then downpour. Deck now looks like a cheetah. Can i just wait for it to dry and do a 2nd coat or do i need to hit it with brightener and powerwash again
Brightener will not do anything. To fix you may to strip it all off and start over. I would call them for suggestions.
i emailed their customer service but havent heard back yet, thank you
Just spent most of the day applying stain, now it’S raining! Behr semi transparent penetrating oil, water seems to be beading up already?
I know it’s not cured yet, but what will this do to the drying time?
Hard to say. Wait until it stops raining and it dries to see if anything happened to it or not.
Just used an Olympic stain then neighbors fire dropped ashes all over the deck before completely cured! Tried wiping ashes off to find stains where they were. How can I fix theses areas
You cannot fix this without removing and starting over.
Stained deck with a semi transparent stain, 2 coats four hours drying time in between. Then later that night about 6 hours rain started and poured down on the deck. Today the deck is still tacky to the touch. Will it cure or is it damaged now from the rain.
Hard to say. Leave it alone for a few days and hopefully it cures. If not, you may need to remove and start over.
have you ever had this problem with sico stain?
Out of curiosity, because the same thing pretty much happened to me,how did it turned out?
Ok so I have a large deck and over the weekend we have stained several sections, railing, benches sides. The plan was to finish with the main surface before the oil stain, Olympic Elite Woodland Oils cured as to hide the drips which has worked on sections tested. The deck is double level one over the other and each is 16×31 in size. The rain started more than a day earlier than forecasted. Now I have a week of rain ahead. Should I just let it dry and apply over or powerwash the deck surface again before I try to finish the main surfaces?
It really depends on the stain brand you are using. I would check with them for advice as it will vary as the best course of action to take as we have not used that particular stain.
