Restore-A-Deck Solid Color Stain Review 4.8/5 (8)

Hi, I am Scott Paul, a leading exterior restoration contractor and business owner with over 30 years of experience in exterior wood decking. My Review of Restore-A-Deck Solid Color Wood Stain is based on my history as a wood restoration contractor and actual hands-on testing, all designed to present you with the top deck stain choices. See here for more info about me.

Key takeaways
  • Restore-A-Deck Solid Color Stain is the only solid stain on the market that comes pre-mixed in 5 colors, simplifying color selection significantly.
  • This stain can be applied to damp wood, allowing homeowners to prep and stain on the same day, saving considerable time over competing brands.
  • At the 2-year mark, tested results showed zero peeling, wearing, mold, or mildew on pressure-treated pine in full sun exposure.
  • Priced at $59.99 per gallon with free shipping, the stain earned an overall score of 8.88 out of 10 across six tested categories.

Restore-A-Deck Solid Stain Review 2026

This is my initial Review of the Restore-A-Deck Solid-Color Wood and Deck Stain. This review will be updated over the years. As deck restoration contractors, Restore A Deck Solid-Color Stain will be our go-to Solid-Color Stain for 2026 due to its ease of use, 5 pre-mixed solid colors (the only solid stain on the market that comes pre-mixed), and the ability to prep and stain on the same day.

Note: Restore-A-Deck Wood Stain is the only stain we have tested that can be applied to dry or damp wood. Applying damp wood allows you to prep and stain on the same day, saving you a tremendous amount of time.

Restore A Deck Solid Color Stain Review

Restore A Deck Solid Color Wood Stain Review

Summary: Restore-A-Deck Solid Color Wood Stain is an extremely durable synthetic-resin, opaque wood finish that helps protect against the damaging effects of water, fungi, and UV radiation on exterior wood surfaces. This V.O.C.-compliant water-based product provides exceptional protection for nearly all exterior wood surfaces in a beautiful matte finish.

Restore-A-Deck Wood Stain can be applied the same day as the prep. Make sure that all standing water has dried off the surface after prep. Typically 2-4 hours at 70º F and less than 50% humidity.

Restore-A-Deck Solid Color Wood Stain can be used on interior or exterior horizontal and vertical wood surfaces, including wood siding, log homes, decks, fences, outdoor wood furniture, pressure-treated wood, and all other natural wood surfaces.

How I Rated Restore-A-Deck Solid Color Wood Stain

My Restore-A-Deck Solid Color Wood Stain review contains a 6-step process and the final average score. Each step is on a scale of 1-10.

  1. The appearance after the Application
  2. Peeling or Wearing
  3. Cost Per Square Foot
  4. Preventing Mold and Mildew
  5. How Easy Was the Application Restore-A-Deck Solid Color Wood Stain
  6. Ease of Reapplication
  7. Restore-A-Deck Solid Color Wood Stain Final Score

6-Step Review of Restore-A-Deck Solid Color Wood Stain

1. Appearance After Initial Stain Application: 10

Note: We used a two-toned deck stain approach for this Restore A Deck Solid Stain Review. This review is for the White Solid color stain applied to all verticals. To see our review of the RAD Semi-Transparent Stain, Click Restore A Deck Wood Stain

The Restore-A-Deck wood stain color we used was the Solid Classic Color in White for the Railings and Semi-transparent Dark Walnut for the Floor. The two coats applied to our PTP wood covered nicely and did not show any wood grain, which is expected with a solid stain. The application was even, and there were no overlap lines.

Restore A Deck Solid Color Stain Review

Restore A Deck Solid Color Stain Review

2. Wear/Tear and Peeling: 10

At the 2-year mark, there is no wearing or peeling anywhere on the white verticals.

3. Cost Per Square Foot: 8

We applied two coats to our 350 sq. feet of verticals that included all railings and steps. 2 Gallons were used for $59 per gallon.

4. Preventing Mold/Mildew/Algae: 9

Like other water-based solid color deck stains, the Restore-A-Deck Solid Color Stain will not promote mold or mildew growth. This is one of the main advantages of using a water-based coating. At the 2-year mark, the deck showed no mold or mildew.

5. Ease of Application: 8

Our favorite aspect of the Restore-A-Deck Wood Solid Color Stain is the ability to stain and prep on the same day. We tested this by cleaning and brightening the wood with the Step 1 and Step 2 Restore A Deck Cleaner/Brightener Kit and applying the RAD stain 1 hour after the prep. The Restore-A-Deck applies more easily to damp wood than dry wood. We also found that the coverage was better when applied to damp wood.

We applied both coats of the White RAD Stain to the wood with a roller and brush, waiting about 30 minutes between coats. The second coat goes on very easily and covers twice as far as the first coat. Overall, application with the Restore-A-Deck solid stain is very easy. It spreads excellently and is easy to work with.

6. Difficulty of Reapplication: 8

Clean and reapply using their Step 1 Deck Cleaner and a light pressure washing.

Overall Score Restore-A-Deck Solid Color Stain at 2-Year Period: 8.88

The Restore-A-Deck is a great Solid Color Stain. It is the only solid stain on the market that comes pre-mixed, making it much easier to choose a color. Restore-A-Deck Wood Stains have allowed the ability to Prep and Stain on the Same Day, giving it a huge advantage over other brands that perform just as well. If you are looking for the future of exterior wood and deck stains, consider the Restore A Deck Solid Color Wood Stain and its prepping systems.

Scott, I have a HUGE deck, partial 2 floors. I have re-stained this 2 times over the past decade. We like it natural, first time Behr Waterproofing Wood Stain Natural/clear. It peeled horribly within months of application.
Couple of years later, we’d replaced so many boards, had planking of various ages that we decided to use a solid stain for uniformity. Benji-Moore Arborcoat (not on your ‘faves’ list).
We did a lot of work prepping the deck first: sanding/ stripping/ brightener. It looks like crap a little over 2 yrs later. Not only is this an expensive project but laborious. We want to hire someone to do this for us now. But it’s time to get this right. What do you suggest? Most of deck is in full sun. Have dog that runs around on it. Moderate foot traffic in summer. Pics attached.

In your review of Restore a Deck you mentioned no peeling on vertical surface after 2 years. Thai not unusual for most decent stains. What was the wear and peeling on horizontal surfaces? Thanks

I have a 28 year old deck that was last stained with Cabot oil based stain 3 years ago. I want to restain with restore a deck semi solid stain. Can I just pressure wash the deck before applying the stain?

I have a 25 year old shed with cedar trim and vertical t1-11.siding. It has portions with graying wood, some mold or mildew (particularly along the bottom of the t1-11 panels, and staining. I made annual applications of linseed oil for the first 15 years and then stopped (bad on me), I want to refinish the shed using a acrylic based SOLID stain. Will your three step process work on a shed (approximately 300 sqft of wood surface area). I live in eastern Idaho which is a semi-arid desert (low precipitation, low humidity, lots of sunshine)

Scott, thank your for your quick reply. I have a few follow-up questions.

Are your three products pet safe? There’s a colony of cats nearby that occasionally frequent my yard and I don’t want to cause any injuries.

Is the brightener step needed if I am using a Solid stain rather than semi-transparent?

My job is small, 300 sq feet and the T1-11 is very dry. The Solid documentation states that only one stain coat is necessary on vertical members. 95% of my project is vertical T1-11 + vertical trim and the remainder is trim mounted horizontally. Looks like I should may get by with 1 gallon but 2 gallons ensures sufficient product. Which would you recommend 1 or 2 gallons of solid stain?

Your paint comes pre-mixed, nice! Always advantageous to mix product during use, easy with a gallon pail of paint but how do your recommend mixing with your container?

Thank you for your time!

We used a Sherwin Williams solid stain for our decks. It did not hold up well (less than a year) with traffic from our dogs launching themselves off the deck to chase squirrels. Do you think Restore A Deck would last a couple of years?

for an old deck on it’s last leg, would you recommend the Restore-a-Deck solid stain (water based) or the Defy solid-stain (acrylic)? I am down to one of these two, just to try to get a few more years out of the deck before replacing all the wood. We have about 1350sq ft total. We will be using a stripper and then a brightner. Can’t finish the entire thing in one day, so the being able to stain while it’s damp isn’t really a huge factor, but it’s nice that we could do it in sections that way.

I have no preference between the two, and both are readily available in the chosen colors, just looking to see if would would work better in this instance. I would go with the Gulf Synthetics revive, but for the size of our deck, it’s more than double the cost of these two options.

We have an older pier on a large lake in central Alabama and have used solid color deck stain for several years. Because of all the changes in treated lumber over the years, some of the decking was there 20 years ago and some replaced 4-6 years ago needs replacing. The old decking has aged but it is still strong compared to some of the new decking that is now rotting away. We chose solid-color stain so it would have a similar appearance. What solid-color deck stain do you recommend? When re-applying, what suggestions do you have in addition to pressure washing? Any advice would be appreciated.

You did not use the solid stain on the deck floor, correct? How do you know that it will hold up as well as on the railing?
I have had 4 deck refinishers tell me to go with SW SuperDeck Exterior Waterborne Solid Color Deck Stain, they have heard of, but have no experience with Restore-a-Deck. Why are they wrong? Did SW change it’s product recently? Also, one said that synthetic resin in RAD would sit on top, not soak into checkering cracks. Can they get a discount on this product? Is it available locally in MIchigan or only online? Thanks.

I have a new fence that is rough cut pressure treated pine with 3 1×6 rails per section. I would like to stain it white or something to keep it light in color like new wood. In the photos shown on this page for the Restore-A-Deck stain, what is the stain used for photos on page 1, 2, 3, and 6? The stain colors aren’t listed for these photos. I previously bought the Cypress solid stain color and it is too red for my liking. Can a new Restore-A-Deck color stain color be painted directly over the old color? The Cypress stain was painted on part of the deck and rails a few weeks ago. Thank you!

Hello,
I’ve been looking for the best solid stain to use on my year old (never been stained yet) privacy fence. I was contemplating using BM Arborcoat. I was told to use only one coat as it contains a sealer and once it’s absorbed into the wood and sealed it will not allow another coat to be absorbed but will sit on top and peel. This makes sense to me unless it’s a wet on wet double coat. Also, the wood needs to be very dry as the sealer would seal in the water and then it would cause the stain to peel later. Do solid stains actually absorb into wood?

I just found your site and see that you recommend Restore-a-Deck as your go-to solid stain. I like the coverage that you got with two coats of the white since that is the color I will be using. I’m a bit confused though as to why it can be used on damp wood. Does it not contain a sealer to protect the wood? I don’t see that it’s water resistant or waterproof either. Is it really more beneficial to not seal the wood nor have water resistance? Aren’t these some of the reasons to stain wood?

I also know I need to pressure wash it before staining with RAD but do I need to use a special cleaning product also?It still looks very clean as it is. I’d like to get it done soon as we are having great weather this week.
Thank you so much.

I have two decks that are 28 years old at my home. They were never stained, just pressure washed. Are there some boards that I should change before I stain the deck? Or should I just change all the decking surface since the deck is so old? I would use the Restore-A-Deck. I attached some snapshots of the worst looking boards.

We just moved into a new house with a 10-12 year old 690sqft deck that has seen better days. I have lightly sanded and cleaned with Olympic deck wash. I was planning to paint with Behr advance deck over but thank God I checked reviews and found this site.
The deck area with the stairs was fixed with new wood and Sherwin Williams super deck solid deck stain. I am looking to cover the entire deck with a grey solid stain from RAD. The deck has some slight splintering but still solid. Looking for some advice on how to proceed.
1. Do I need to remove all the SW stain from the old and new wood before I stain with the RAD grey?
2. What about wash and brighten?

Hi Scott,
Thanks for all you do to provide this very helpful resource.
We have a covered porch with 6×6 cedar posts and 4×8 cedar beam facing south, taking direct sun throughout the day. This work was done 10 years ago when we moved into the home. The stain has held up nicely for areas not exposed to the sun, but peeling in areas that do have direct exposure to the sun. I’ve pressure washed most of the stain off of the posts (please see photo below). I plan on sanding them today.
For the beam, the stain is on there good. I won’t be able tp pressure wash the beam to strip it down to bare wood like I did the posts without damaging the wood. Can I just clean the beam with deck cleaner, lightly pressure wash to remove any loose stain, and apply RAD over both posts and beam? If so, which product would you recommend?

I have a small wood deck that was painted before I bought my house. It peeled but the spots that didn’t peel where hard to strip. So I sanded, pressure washed, let dry and applied a peel stop primer from zinsser. Painted with Behr porch and patio. After a year it’s held up to weather and traffic, but my plastic chairs stick and peel off little spots whenever they’re moved. I live in Florida. The deck gets sun half of the day. Any recommendations on a more durable paint that can be applied to already painted surfaces?

I spent a fair amount of monies on a deck product named Wood rx, was suppose to be a good product.
I bought a airless sprayer and 10 gallons of this stuff did an 85 ft deck and ramp and my back deck 28 ft by 16 dec. after seven or eight months it is peeling I am very disappointed can I use your product to spray over this or how do I go about re-doing these decks. They were All treated lumber which I was told had to be weathered for 8 months which I did, my question is can I use your product over my peeling deck as is?

I understand the basic difference between opaque and semi-permanent stain, but I am not clear how you decide which one to use. I live in an HOA and we are required to use cedar color on our decks but the type of stain is not designated. I have cleaned and brightened the deck but I’m not sure where to go from here. I don’t know if what was originally used was semi-transparent or opaque. And does it make a difference if I put semi-transparent over opaque?

Thank you for responding. So again I’m looking for step one through X. Step one, pressure wash get all the peeling off is there a step two of using a chemical to clean the deck and then step three to sand and a step for to shine the deck to open up the pores and then a step five to apply you’re solid stain decking? When I apply your solid stain, if the boards are dry and the humidity is 70% am I good to still put the stain on? Just looking for a clear directions, but again thank you for getting back to me so soon. This is a great feature you guys offer. John

I’ve been using Sherman Williams decks scape solid stain The last three years. I live in Michigan and each spring it peels up all over the place. I pressure wash it, scrape it, clean it and in some portion sand it, we have a lot of humidity and it’s hard to get a few days without humidity to apply the solid stain. I’m thinking of trying your products. Would like to know your step one, step two, step three etc. I would use a solid stain. I want to avoid it peeling each year. Adding another coat every two or three years is not a problem, dealing with all the peeling and starting over from scratch each year is the problem. Part of me thinks that the boards have never dried out or there’s too much snow in moisture in the winter and they never get a chance to dry out. Also applying the stain if there’s humidity in the air. I can apply the stain when it’s 40 to 60% but it’s hard to find a couple of days words that are under. How does humidity and applying your stain work? Your advice and plan of attack is welcomed.

Great site! I’m likely going the RAD solid gray route. I’ve stripped my cedar deck with a Diambrush, fill holes/rot and will final sand to 60 or 80. Deck was previously finished in Benj Moore solid Arborcoat

Question – Do I have to get 100 % of any former stain remnants off? Think the grey color, not any loose stain or chips. Basically does it have be sanded to pristine almost ‘newly installed wood’ condition?

Question – do I need any sort of brightener/pre-stain or can I just use the RAD Solid Stain right over the newly stripped/sanded wood?

Hi,

I will be sanding my 15 year old cedar deck down to the bear wood. Would it be considered new wood? I read in a comment reply that new wood would have to wait 30 days to be stained. Is this true for an older deck? I will be applying RAD solid color stain?

Thanks!

Hi, I live in the northeast USA. Last year I sanded my cedar deck down to the bear wood. I applied a water base primer and painted two coats of white California Allflor porch and patio. It came out beautiful! A few weeks later it started tanning.I was told to put an oil based primer and coat the deck again with the California Allflor porch and patio. The next season it peeled terribly and has been peeling every since.(See pictures) I was devastated. I contacted California paint again with no resolution.
I am planning to sand the deck down again to the bear wood (Cedar). I want to use a white solid color again. What product would you recommend? How can I prevent tanning again through the white? Or should I just go with a light gray color if tanning is inevitable ?
Thank you!

Posted this at RAD this morning and did not get a response that leads me to a solution down the road & wondering if anyone here can give advice.

My post: Replaced an old PT deck with new cedar April of this year. Per instructions, allowed it to weather 3 to 6 months, in this case 4 months as I just went through the RAD process this past week. Clean/brighten/stain. The cleaner seemed to do its job. The weathering was scrubbed off mostly with hard bristle brush and then power washed off. Brightener immediately was applied, allowed to sit for about 15 minutes then the whole deck power washed for 1/2 hour. The deck was permitted to dry for a day & 1/2 until I could get to staining. The stain was applied with a hand brush and appeared to be soaked up easily. The deck is a modest size (30 x 12) and I had just enough in the 1 gallon to do the job. Per instructions on the label, only 1 coat was applied being it was on new decking. The stain was light walnut, semi transparent. The result was less than great as it ended up quite blotchy. Questions…is this usual or expected when using the lighter stains on (new) cedar? Would I expect the next year maintenance reapplication to partially correct this? Is there an obvious mistake that was made here that you can see? The lack of absorption around the knots lead me to believe either the wood needed much more than 4 months to weather, or this is the expected result with that type of stain. If so, are there any immediate correction actions that can be taken? Thanks for any help you can provide.

RAD response: No, this is not a normal result, and not sure what went wrong outside of your wood having very uneven porosity. The easiest thing to do is clean and recoat in the Spring. No immediate concerns as it is protected.

Continuing…

So it is what it is, I suppose, but I can look forward to no better result come next season reapplication. (?) Should I consider sanding with 60 or so to make porous? Should I consider a darker stain or even a solid stain or a different stain? Will I need to strip this RAD completely off or can I clean it up and apply another coat of something else? Any advice?

Thank you.

I would like some clarification here. I was under the assumption that if changing from RAD semi to RAD solid, one would need to first strip the Semi off 1st.
I’m in a similar situation, though it has nothing to do with porosity or knots, just a change. Stripped last year, then did one coat of RAD Semi & now want a RAD solid.
I’m not just checking that I’ve read this correctly.

We have a solid dark brown stain throughout on the rails, ballasters, posts, and deck from a previous owner. Looks slopped on with little preparation and the components have weather related checking and cracking. Currently the finish is peeling on the flat surfaces. We’d like to go with white for the rails and ballasters with a dark color for the deck surface. Any ideas to get the white to cover or is this simply a horrible idea? Suggestions to remove the existing finish are welcome.
Climate is middle TN with exposure to sun, shade, some snow, and rain. Thank you in advance.

I just hand scraped and removed Olympic Rescue It NIGHTMARE off my 30×60 deck. I would like to use a solid stain but never want to scrape my deck again if I want to touch it up in the future. What product can I use for a solid stain and reapply for touch up in the future? Do solids come in an oil base ? Do acrylic or water bases peel ? Also, some of my knots are leaking sap. Will this affect my new application. Please Help !

Can this solid stain be put over Russet colored Behr premium deck over that has been cleaned, scraped & sanded with a pole sander? There are still many areas where the deck over is still in tact, but there are also bare wood areas and wood putty as well, now (thanks to this crappy stuff). We will be priming it with Rustoleum rock solid clear deck primer. Not sure if we should topcoat with Kilz porch deck and floor paint of this solid stain???

Our deck is maybe 5-10 years old, looks never been painted before. We did pressure wash 2 weeks ago and I use the wood cleanser and scrub the surface yesterday. But probably the pressure wash and scrub is too much, now somehow it looks rough. Do we need to sand to make the surface smooth before paint?

Also we are struggling on whether to choose solid stains or semisolid or semitransparent. I want it to be more durable, I don’t want it peel in a year and we need to prep and repaint every year. Please help on decision-making…

Thanks!

My deck is probably 10 years old. Looks like it was never treated before. I had a friend do pressure wash on it a couple of months ago. That cleaned my deck very well. The pictures attached are what it looks like now (2 months after pressure wash). For various reasons, I was not able to stain the deck since then.

I am unsure about solid vs semisolid vs semitransparent stains. The condition of wood to me looks like I should do a solid stain. Please help me in decision-making. I am not a handy person, have hired a person. We will be using Restore-a-Deck cleaner to clean it further and will be using the stains recommended here.

Thanks.

I have a deck stained with solid stain, Sherwin Williams Deskscape, finished in 2013. Deck boards are a dark brown, Bench, railing, fascia trim and perimeter boards are a dark, warm cream. I plan to reapply a solid stain in similar colors (probably RAD in Espresso and Desert Taupe).

I have power washed the deck without cleaner. Existing stain is very compromised in areas where the deck was exposed to the elements. Some boards will have to be replaced, mainly perimeter boards and fascia trim but a few deck boards are damaged enough to warrant replacement.

Should I replace the damaged boards and wait until the spring to strip, brighten, sand and apply solid stain (to allow the new boards to age)? Or can I do all of this at the same time (this fall). I live in northern Illinois so there won’t be an option to complete project until probably April or May if I don’t get it done before late October, early November.

Also, given the photos, I believe I need to strip off what I can and then sand the deck. Is this correct? If you can’t get all the stain removed, is it safe to reapply a coat of solid stain?

I am in the process of trying to refinish our deck. The previous owner used Behr deck over. What is the best method for removing it? Some has just peeled off but I read that it must all be removed before adding RAD. Should I use a paint stripper? Power wash? Sand? Clean and brighten? In what order? Is RAD the best product? We need it to be a light color because it gets direct sun. Thanks!

I had a very bad experience with the Behr Deck Over paint. Getting it off was an even worse experience. I found using the Porter Cable 4” Restorer in conjunction with its Porter Cable PXRARP01 Restorer Paint and Rust Remover Roller Wheel to be very effective in removing that finish without compromising the underlying wood. Added benefits were it left the wood nicely sanded, was relatively inexpensive and something an inexperienced DIY’er could do.

Can you recommend and supply a stain perform well for a north facing southern Ontario deck? The deck surface has old pressure treated planks that have been turned over to expose a less weathered face. Hoping to increase the effective life of an appropriate stain, all cracks and screw head depressions have been filled with a light brown epoxy wood filler (P.C.Woody brand) followed by a thorough 60 grit sanding. Some brown end-cut preservative has been applied to plank edges and ends.
I have since been informed that a deck stain may not bond well to a wood filler. However, now that the filler has been used, can you recommend the most suitable solid and/or semitransparent stain for this deck.

Hi,

I’m having my old deck restored (floor, rails, and stairs) with new KDAT pressurized pine. I am thinking about a two tone look with a darker floor and white rails. There will be metal balusters. Hello, this site has been very helpful in researching for my project (new to decking). I’m looking to re-surface our deck (20+ years old), which has two solid color paints (unsure if it’s solid color stain or exterior paint) – white on railings/verticals and a maroon-ish on the deck floor. The paint is peeling, wood is rotting in some areas (planning to use wood expoxy to fix the rotted areas) and has some mildew. Do I need to strip or can I just apply a cleaner and power wash before I sand and apply paint? As for the paint, I assume the best way to match the color is to take a sample into a local store? There doesn’t appear to be a maroon-ish color for the RAD solid color stain and the local stores don’t seem to carry the Defy solid color stain…Thanks in advance!

Hello! We just bought a house that has a 600 square foot deck that is in need of repair. The previous owners used Rust-oleum Deck and Concrete Restore 2x One Coat Solid Stain. We have pulled boards that had dry rot and replaced them with pine because we thought we were going to use Behr Deceiver (no way after reading reviews). So we possibly have different types of wood down on the deck. We have narrowed our choices down to RAD Solid Stain, Gulf Synthetics Deck Revive or KILZ Porch and Patio Latex Paint. My question is, if we have different types of wood, will the solid stain cover that fact or will you be able to see the difference? Out of these three products, what would you recommend? My gut is telling me Gulf Synthetics, but that cost has got me scared. Do we need to strip the Rust-oleum Solid Stain completely or just power wash and remove loose pieces? Thanks so much for your help and advice!

Hi! We are in the process of restoring our deck on our seasonal camping lot. We have bought last year an older deck and rearranged it to fit our need and camper. We had to had pieces to the deck to complete it with new wood. Plus, we added a brand new railing to it with new wood. The “old” part of the deck was solid painted. We have removed the paint last year with a pressure washer. Now, we want to stain or paint it this year, but we are wondering what would be our best solution: stain or a solid paint. And should we put the railing the same color? The wood on the older part doesn’t look too good….and I am afraid that stain will not cover enough and it will not look good… it’s grey and have cracks…perfect for a camping site though. Thanks for your help!

More of a comment than a question first. Just below my first question i looked again at JIMS pics. I have almost the EXACT same deck situation…peeling, divits/cracks and crowded boards. I wanted to know if the ballisters are in fair shape can I just scrape the bad areas, sand and wash. Then paint with a brush or roller?
By the way I am carefully running my circular saw down through the joints in order to re-space and remove old debris and paint.
??After I measure the deck surface square footage what is th best way to calculate the paint quantity for the ballisters, top railings and steps?

We used a solid stain on our deck about two years ago. I know it was Cabot brand but I’m not sure what the actual product was. I think it was the solid color acrylic deck stain in redwood. Hi,

I have a very large deck that was stained with Sikkens Mahogany many years ago. I would like very much to change the color to a much lighter one. One of the contractors I spoke with said he would simply power wash the deck with water, allow it to dry and then apply two coats of any stain – however, he warned that staining lighter might take a third coat. Is this the type of stain you would recommend to go lighter. Thanks so much for any advice.
